Description

Whitney Pond is a 66-acre impoundment of the Millers River located near the intersection of Routes 202 and 12 in the center of Winchendon. Whitney Pond has an average depth of 6 feet, a maximum depth of 31 feet and the waters are tea stained with limited visibility. Aquatic vegetation is common throughout with the exception of the areas near the dam. The shore line is largely undeveloped with only a town park, cemetery, and rail trail present. 

Recreational access

The town of Winchendon manages the North Central Pathway which is a biking and walking trail that runs along the southern shore of the pond. Cartop boats can be carried into the water and the shoreline can be accessed from a parking area off of Glennallen Street (get directions). A secondary cartop boat and shore access is via a dirt road off of Pond Street along the western shore (get directions). Be sure to follow local parking ordinances and respect private property when accessing the water here. Shore access is also provided in Winchendon Community Park off of Route 202 (get directions). A parking fee may apply if accessing the pond via the community park.   • chain pickerel
  • yellow perch
  • white perch
  • black crappie
  • bluegill
  • pumpkinseed
  • brown bullhead
  • yellow bullhead
  • white sucker
  • golden shiner

Fishing

Whitney Pond has produced largemouth bass and yellow perch that meet minimum sizes for recognition by the Freshwater Sportfishing Awards Program.
