LGBTQ+ Health Resources

Find safe and inclusive care.

Massachusetts is home to strong, vibrant communities that include people who identify as lesbian, bisexual, gay, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, asexual/aromantic, and two-spirit (LGBTQ+).

Because of environmental factors including discrimination and barriers to health care, people who identify as LGBTQ+ experience unique health disparities. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) and health care providers across the state are committed to reversing these trends and working together to improve the health and wellness of LGBTQ+ people in the Commonwealth.

Access to health care

You deserve quality care. Whether you’re looking for primary care, specialty care, or mental health care, many health systems in Massachusetts have LGBTQ+ programs. Check with your health plan or health provider to learn more about affirming care.

Mental health support

If you need help right away or are in crisis, the 988 Lifeline has free and confidential support for everyone. Help is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The 988 Lifeline also provides specialized LGBTQ+ services for youth and young adults under age 25. To connect with a skilled, compassionate counselor via text, call, or chat: text "PRIDE" to 988, call 988 and choose option 3, or check off LGBTQI+ in the pre-chat survey on 988lifeline.org

Disease prevention & healthy aging

People who identify as LGBTQ+ are at greater risk for some chronic diseases and health conditions due to environmental factors.   There are many resources specifically designed for LGBTQ+ people at the state and national level, focused on chronic disease prevention, access to sexual health services, and support for healthy aging.
