State Police Boston Barracks

Limited parking is available for guests at the Boston Barracks.

Station H-4, SP Boston Barracks is situated at a major intersection linking Boston with the western suburbs and numerous other major interstate highways. Despite its Boston address, callers often confuse this barracks with General Headquarters. However, it's located squarely in downtown Boston, at the convergence of several state, local, and Department of Conservation & Recreation roadways. 

The barracks' jurisdiction includes the area known as Frederick Olmsted's "Emerald Necklace," comprising a significant portion of Boston's park system. Formerly part of the Lower Basin District in the Metropolitan Police District, SP Boston now oversees a range of world-renowned tourist attractions, including The Museum of Science, The Esplanade and Hatch Shell, Fenway Park, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and major hospitals.

Following the partial completion of the Big Dig project, the interstate highway system previously patrolled by SP Boston has been transferred to the Turnpike and patrolled by Troop E. This shift has enabled patrols to allocate more time to patrolling DCR "river roads" like Storrow Drive, Soldiers Field Road, the Riverway, and the Jamaica Way, which have become major alternate commuter routes linking the interstate highway system with Boston and the suburbs.

SP Boston also manages a significant amount of recreational green space, patrolled by cruiser, motorcycle, bicycle, and troopers on foot. A strong partnership has formed with the Boston and Cambridge Police Departments, working collaboratively to provide police services to the complex network of roads serving both cities.
