Facilities at State Police Devens Barracks
Following its decommissioning as an active Army Base due to the Base Realignment and Closure Act of 1991, Devens underwent a significant transition. In 1993, the Massachusetts State Legislature appointed Mass Development as the local authority, tasked with spearheading economic development and providing municipal services, including policing. Organized around a community policing philosophy, the Devens Barracks delivers a broad spectrum of services aimed not only at enhancing public safety but also at fostering the growth and improvement of the community. In this capacity, the State Police at Devens undertake all functions typical of a local police department. The Devens Barracks ensures 24-hour police coverage, encompassing continuous patrol, prompt response, and in-depth investigation. It is specifically charged with overseeing the 90 miles of roadways within Devens property.
