Facilities
Constructed in 1934, the Athol Barracks, also known as "C-1," originally occupied a position along the former Route 2, which is now designated as Route 2A. Positioned just above Downtown Athol, the barracks initially provided full-time law enforcement services to numerous communities within its jurisdiction. Today, the Athol Barracks acts as a crucial source of supplementary personnel for the larger communities it serves and functions as a central hub for accessing a variety of specialized State Police resources. While the number of municipalities under its watch has evolved over time, currently, 15 cities and towns depend on SP Athol, making it the most extensive geographic State Police station area in the Commonwealth.
SP Athol is responsible for several rural state highways within its jurisdiction, including Route 2, known as its primary area of responsibility, and the scenic "Mohawk Trail."
