Media Contact for AG CAMPBELL ANNOUNCES OVER $100,000 IN CITATIONS AGAINST BOSTON MARKET FOR FAILURE TO PAY WORKERS ON TIME, PROVIDE ACCURATE RECORDS

Boston — Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell has secured $104,000 in citations against Boston Market Corporation and its owner Jingnesh “Jay” Pandya for failure to make timely payment of wages and failure to furnish true and accurate payroll records to the Attorney General’s Office. The citations are in the forms of restitution for workers and civil penalties.
“Boston Market repeatedly denied their employees timely payment of wages, which workers and their families depend on for economic security and stability,” said AG Campbell. “My office will continue to hold accountable those who violate our wage and hour laws.”
The investigation began when the Attorney General’s Fair Labor Division (FLD) received several complaints alleging nonpayment of wages. Boston Market is a fast-casual restaurant chain selling prepared foods with locations throughout the state.
Throughout the investigation, FLD continued to receive complaints from employees of Boston Market about the untimely payment of wages. Under Massachusetts’s wage and hour laws, most employers are required to pay employees within six days of the end of a pay period.
This is the latest effort by Attorney General Campbell to ensure that all workers receive the wages, benefits, and protections they are due and to hold employers accountable when they violate the law. Earlier this year, AG Campbell announced over $1,000,000 in citations against Dunkin’ franchises for child labor violations, as well as citations against day-care facility that violated earned sick time and meal break laws.
Workers who believe that their rights have been violated in the workplace are encouraged to file a complaint online at www.mass.gov/ago/fld. For more information about the state’s wage and hour laws, workers may call the AG’s Fair Labor Hotline at (617) 727-3465 or go to www.mass.gov/ago/fairlabor for materials in multiple languages.
This matter was handled by Assistant Attorney General Tallulah Knopp and Investigator Sheilyn Gonzalez, both of the Attorney General’s Fair Labor Division.
