BOSTON — Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell today issued the following statement marking the effective date of certain employer obligations under the Wage Transparency Law, including the requirement that employers with 25 or more employees disclose salary ranges in job postings and protect employees’ right to ask for salary ranges:

“The Wage Transparency Law is an important step in improving transparency and closing wage gaps that have held workers – especially for women and people of color – back for too long,” said AG Campbell. “My office remains committed to ensuring that both employers and employees understand their rights and obligations.”

The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has hosted webinars and trainings to help employers better understand their obligations under the Wage Transparency Law. In addition, the AGO has issued detailed guidance and a Pay Transparency FAQ outlining the requirements for employers and the rights of employees. Businesses that do not comply with the law, or that retaliate against employees for asking for salary ranges when apply for a job, are subject to enforcement action by the AGO, including fines and civil citations.

For additional information and resources regarding wage transparency, please review the AGO’s Wage Transparency Resource Page. If an employee or prospective employee believes their rights have been violated, they should file a complaint with the AGO at www.mass.gov/ago/fld
