Born with albinism and now legally blind, Karen has faced increasing challenges with her vision over the past 10 to 15 years. As her vision changed, MCB became a vital resource in helping her adapt and continue excelling in her career as the Head of Accounting and Controller at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Working closely with her MCB counselor, Karen received guidance and training through the Carroll Center and learned to use assistive technology and handheld tools essential to her work. As an accountant, reading small numbers accurately is critical, and MCB provided extensive support when her magnifying software stopped working, even spending countless hours troubleshooting to ensure she had what she needed to succeed.

“MCB’s support has been invaluable,” Karen shares. “They’ve given me the tools to navigate my job and thrive despite vision loss.”
