WAKEFIELD — The Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine recently took disciplinary action against the medical licenses of Jeffrey R. Schapiro, M.D. and Ruxandra Carp, M.D.

In a Final Decision & Order, the Board suspended Dr. Jeffrey R. Schapiro’s medical license after finding that he touched numerous patients on the knee, back and inner thigh when there was no clinical reason for doing so and without explaining his actions. Such actions constitute misconduct and undermine public confidence in the integrity of the medical profession. Dr. Schapiro, a board-certified internist, was first licensed to practice medicine in Massachusetts on July 26, 1995. Dr. Schapiro practices medicine in a group practice in Brookline.

The Board admonished Dr. Ruxandra Carp’s license to practice medicine after finding, in a Final Decision & Order, that she did not timely furnish a copy of a patient’s medical records to her new psychiatrist and did not timely respond to written communications from the Board. Dr. Carp, who has been licensed to practice medicine in the Commonwealth since April 14, 2010, was also fined $1,500. Dr. Carp is board-certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties in Psychiatry, with subspecialty certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She currently practices telehealth medicine, as well as a solo practice in Winchester.

The Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine licenses more than 50,000 physicians, osteopaths and acupuncturists.  The Board was created in 1894 to protect the public health and safety by setting standards for the practice of medicine and ensuring that doctors who practice in the Commonwealth are appropriately qualified and competent. The Board investigates complaints and determines sanctions. More information is available at www.mass.gov/massmedboard, or you may contact the Board at borimmediamassmail.state.ma.us.
