BOSTON — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) and Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) are pleased to announce the launch of the new Citation Portal, an online self-service tool providing access to real-time, on-demand citation data. The portal is designed to encourage public awareness of citation and violation information and can be accessed here. Within the portal, users can engage with data through easy-to-understand, pre-built reports and interactive dashboards, or conduct their own self-driven analysis. As required by data protection and privacy laws in place, no personal identifiable information is available through the portal.
“Data is one of the most powerful tools we have to improve safety and accountability on our roads,” said Transportation Secretary and CEO Monica Tibbits-Nutt. “By expanding access to this information, we are not only promoting transparency—we’re empowering the public to be informed, engaged partners in building a safer transportation system.”
“Information like this is particularly valuable for law enforcement and other stakeholders who have a role to play in protecting the safety of road users – and we are pleased to be making it available to the general public on an easily accessible platform for the first time,” said Registrar of Motor Vehicles Colleen Ogilvie.
“Following extensive conversations with our key stakeholders, we listened and delivered,” said Merit Rating Board Director Sonja Singleton. “With their input, we have created a dynamic data tool that can display citation information in wide range of formats, from a basic chart to a more complex grid for more complicated analysis.”
Various modules on the portal:
Interactive Data Dashboards: Dashboards provide an interactive summary of Citation and Violation data.
Data Query and Visualization (Q&V): The Q&V tool guides you through a series of steps to query on a subset of data that can be reviewed and inspected.
Data Extraction: Data Extraction provides you with the ability to get an email that contains an Excel file for a given location and year of data.
Reports: There are a series of reports broken into different categories.
Citation Tabulation and Charting: The Citation Tabulation and Charting tool provides you with the opportunity to dig into the overall data set at either the Citation or Violation Data level.
Citation Tree: The Citation Tree allows analysis of data counts in a tree format.
Test of Proportions: The Test of Proportions provides you with the ability to compare data sets to identify over-representation of specific fields of data.
