My White Cane, Arianna Sepulveda, Springfield

"Without my white cane, I wouldn't be able to travel independently. It helps me detect things like large cracks in the sidewalk, wheelchair ramps, steps, and poles. There's no way I would ever feel confident walking down the street or inside buildings without it. I also appreciate that white canes come in a variety of materials, such as aluminum, graphite, and carbon fiber—allowing people to find the material that suits them best. They also come in different styles: rigid, straight canes that can't be compacted, folding canes, and telescoping canes, so everyone can choose what works for them. Even when I eventually get a guide dog, I'll always carry a cane as a backup because you never know when you might need it."
