"What does it mean when a person who is blind bumps into something? The same as you, change direction. Sighted people continuously and with little effort use their eyes to gather information. My cane simply gives me input to know where I am and what's around me. I'm new to this tool. It was recommended to me during COVID. I love the ease and confidence it gives me to move about. Without the cane, I walked with my head down, constantly thinking about my next step. I exhorted much effort to maneuver about. I am amazed at how much easier it is using the cane. The feel and sound of the cane tells me of upcoming challenges and the smoothness of the terrain. The cane tells me what I need to know and I don't have to work as hard to move safely and skillfully. I spent most of my life memorizing places, paths, and how many stairs. My sister says I walk with more speed and confidence now. I really love my cane."
