The Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court have set a score of 620 as the minimum passing score for the NextGen bar examination, which will be administered in Massachusetts instead of the Uniform Bar Examination (UBE) beginning July 2028. The Justices established the passing score based on the National Conference of Bar Examiners’ determination that 620 is the equivalent of the current Massachusetts UBE passing score of 270.
Massachusetts will accept petitions for admission by transfer of NextGen score beginning in July 2026. A score of 620 or higher will be required, subject to all other admission requirements.
