BOSTON — The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) today announced that the RMV Braintree Service Center will open at its new location on Monday, September 22, at 60 Columbian Street. The new location will provide an improved customer experience, increased accessibility, and enhanced safety of operations, featuring 17 customer service counters and a dedicated area for commercial customers.
The new location will offer all transactions conducted at the previous location at 10 Plain Street. The Plain Street service center will offer transactions for customers until 6 p.m. on Friday, September 19.
“At the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, we are not just improving services – we are making them more streamlined, accessible and focused on people,” said Transportation Secretary and CEO Monica Tibbits-Nutt. “We know the Registry is where many people have their first interaction with state government, and we want that experience to feel respectful, efficient, and supportive. This new Braintree location reflects those values. It offers modern conveniences for the public, a larger parking lot to ease access, and a better work environment for our dedicated staff who serve thousands of people every day.”
“We are pleased to reopen the Braintree Service Center at its new location to better provide residents and businesses in the region a convenient location to conduct a range of services, including applying for a REAL ID credential,” said Registrar of Motor Vehicles Colleen Ogilvie. “This is the third RMV center being opened in recent months and I appreciate the work by employees to prepare for successful operations for our customers in Braintree, Milford, and Chelsea (formerly Revere). Over the past several years, the RMV has made strides in building an industry-leading environment for individual and commercial customers, as well as for business and government partners.”
The Registry’s Braintree location has been a popular location for road test services, and road tests will continue to be offered at the new location at 60 Columbian Street. The RMV also operates another road test site in Braintree at 717 Granite Street, and the Granite Street property will continue to be open for scheduling.
Customers who use the Braintree location at 60 Columbian Street, will find the location convenient, in close proximity to Route 3 and Route 37, and have added facility improvements, including indoor air quality monitoring. Staff at the center will be conducting all RMV transactions, including required in-person transactions to obtain a Massachusetts driver’s license or identification card and/or vehicle registration, and road testing.
This location on Columbian Street is scheduled to be open weekdays, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Appointments are encouraged for license, permit and ID transactions but walk ins are accepted. The Columbian Street location opens for business on September 22, and the existing location at 10 Plain Street will permanently close for business on Friday, September 19. There will be no Saturday service in Braintree on September 20.
As the Massachusetts Registry continues to modernize operations and streamline services, the RMV updates its customer center facilities. Since the spring, the RMV has opened new locations to serve customers at 138 South Main Street in Milford and 12 Webster Avenue in Chelsea.
Information on Massachusetts RMV service offerings and appointments can be found at www.Mass.Gov/RMV, including more than 60 transactions that can be conducted online. The RMV recommends that all customers get ready online before their appointment.
Any Massachusetts resident who is a member of AAA may choose to conduct many RMV transactions at an AAA location. Members of AAA may visit www.aaa.com for a list of services and to make an appointment.
