The Summer Internship Program is a 10-week paid opportunity running from June 1 through August 7. To be eligible, applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university).

9-1-1 Team Intern

Project work for the GIS intern will involve enhancing MassGIS’ Master Address Database (MAD), which is used for 9-1-1 response and planning statewide. Using Structured Query Language (SQL), a robust Quality Assurance (QA) routine of over 100 checks has been developed. This routine helps assure the accuracy of the contents of the MAD and is used to maintain relationships between different datasets in the MAD. There are also seven auxiliary QA checks that, unlike the main tabular checks, use spatial SQL. After proper training, the project will consist of editing within the live production database. Project work will include fixing issues in dozens of the tabular QA checks and in a handful of the spatial QA checks, as well as providing enhancements to the MAD beyond QA work. Some outreach to data providers at the local government level will also be required.
