News  The Board of Registration of Allied Mental Health and Human Services Professions Issues Revised Licensing Regulations

On July 31, 2026, the Board of Allied Mental Health and Human Services Professions issued revised regulations to clarify and broaden licensing requirements for the licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) license, allow teletherapy for licensing experience hours permanently, and create a new licensed supervised mental health counselor (LSMHC) license. The regulations will also streamline the LMHC license application process for applicants who have been licensed as an LSMHC, and will align certain licensing requirements for the licensed marriage and family therapist license to the requirements for the LMHC license.

The revised regulations are available on the Board’s website Statutes and Regulations (Allied Mental Health).

The new LSMHC license application and the revised LMHC license application are available in the Department of Public Health eLicensing System.
