WILBRAHAM — A Delmore Road man was found deceased at the scene of a two-alarm fire in his home Friday night, said Wilbraham Fire Chief Michael Andrews, Wilbraham Police Chief Edward Lennon, State Fire Marshal Jon M. Davine, and Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni.
The Wilbraham Fire Department responded to 3 Delmore Ave. at approximately 8:40 p.m. after multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting a fire. On arrival, firefighters observed heavy fire on the first floor of the two-story, single-family home. A neighbor reported that one adult was believed to be inside.
Firefighters immediately made entry to attack the fire and search for the resident. They found the man unresponsive, and he was declared deceased at the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of his death. Two pets were also found deceased.
The fire was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes and went to two alarms, drawing mutual aid from Ludlow, Palmer, Westover, and Action Ambulance. The Department of Fire Services delivered a Rehab unit to support firefighters’ health and safety at the scene.
The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation by the Wilbraham Fire Department, Wilbraham Police, State Police assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office, and State Police assigned to the Hampden District Attorney's Office, with assistance by the DFS Code Compliance & Enforcement Unit.
