Oil Spill Prevention & Response

MassDEP prepares for oil spills by placing equipment trailers in local communities. We train local officials to use the equipment and protect sensitive areas.

MassDEP works with other groups, such as the U.S. Coast Guard and local firefighters, to plan for possible oil spills. We identify areas that need protection like bird nesting areas and fish spawning grounds. We train with the local community so that we will be prepared in the event of a spill.
