How a SafetyWorks Consultation works
SafetyWorks provides free, confidential workplace safety consultations to Massachusetts employers. Our consultants work with you to identify potential hazards, strengthen workplace safety practices, and understand applicable OSHA requirements.
Here’s what to expect from start to finish.
-
You request a consultation
Complete the online request form to get started. A supervisor, manager, or business owner must submit the request. Once DLS receive your request, a member of the SafetyWorks Consultation team will contact you to schedule a workplace visit at a time that works for you.
-
Meet with your DLS consultant
Your visit begins with an opening conference. Your SafetyWorks consultant will explain the consultation process, learn more about your workplace, and discuss your safety goals and concerns. This is also an opportunity to identify specific areas you would like the SafetyWorks consultant to review.
-
Walk through your workplace
Your SafetyWorks consultant will walk through your workplace with you to assess working conditions and identify potential safety and health hazards. Depending on your workplace and needs, your SafetyWorks consultant can help you:
- Recognize workplace hazards
- Sample for air and noise exposures
- Identify ways to reduce or eliminate hazards
- Develop or improve your safety program
- Understand applicable OSHA requirements
- Identify employee training needs
-
Review the findings
At the end of the visit, your SafetyWorks Consultation will hold a closing conference with you to discuss what they observed. Together, you’ll review identified hazards, recommended solutions, and timelines for correcting any serious or imminent hazards.
-
Receive your report and take action
After the consultation, you’ll receive a detailed written report outlining the findings, recommendations, and agreed-upon timelines. Employers are responsible for correcting serious or imminent hazards within the established timeframe and confirming when those corrections have been completed. Once required corrections are confirmed, the consultation is closed.
-
Continue improving workplace safety
SafetyWorks remains a resource for your workplace. You can request additional consultations as your workplace, operations, or safety needs change.
