Bureau of Waste Site Cleanup | MassDEP (BWSC)

The Bureau implements three programs to cleanup contamination in the environment and restore the affected land: the Waste Site Cleanup Program, the Marine Oil Spill Prevention & Response Program, and the Natural Resource Damages Program.

As part of these efforts, we respond to environmental emergencies, often with other state and federal agencies, and write/enforce the rules for cleaning up contaminated properties. The documentation of the cleanups are available online and the programs offer numerous opportunities for the public to be involved in the cleanup/restoration process.
