Civil Service Commission

The Massachusetts Civil Service Commission is a quasi-judicial state agency whose mission is to ensure that public employment decisions are based on merit, free of any personal or political considerations. We conduct hearings and issue decisions on appeals filed by certain state and municipal employees and candidates for positions covered by the civil service law, including: discipline, layoff, bypass, classification and examination appeals.
