The Massachusetts Elected Committee of Blind Vendors (MECBV) consists of seven members elected by their peers, each serving a two-year term.
About Us
Under 111 CMR 3.16, the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind (MCB) oversees a biennial election to appoint seven members to the Massachusetts Elected Committee of Blind Vendors (MECBV). This election occurs every odd-numbered year, with members serving a two-year term commencing on October 1st. MECBV is exclusively composed of vendors elected by their peers.
The election process is structured to ensure both senior and newly licensed vendors are represented. This representation encompasses vendors operating various types of facilities across all geographic areas of the state, aiming to achieve proportional representation on federal and other (state and municipal) properties.
MECBV convenes monthly with Commission staff, with additional special meetings scheduled as needed. MECBV participates with MCB in major policy decisions and the development of policies, programs, and systems related to the transfer and promotion of vendors. MECBV also plays a role in developing training and retraining programs, receiving vendor grievances, and serving as their advocate. Additionally, MECBV works with MCB to sponsor meetings and instructional conferences.
