About Climate Chief Hoffer
Melissa Hoffer is Massachusetts’ first ever Climate Chief. She joined the Biden Administration as a Day 1 political appointee, serving as the Acting General Counsel and Principal Deputy General Counsel of the Environmental Protection Agency. She led the EPA’s Office of General Counsel through the transition until November 2021, and continued to serve as Principal Deputy General Counsel.

Planetary Call to Action for Climate Change Resilience
In May 2024, Governor Maura Healey and Climate Chief Hoffer joined Pope Francis, Mayors and Governors from across the world in signing the Planetary Action for Climate Change Resilience. The document, which was authored in part by UMass Boston Chancellor Marcelo Suárez-Orozco and Chief Hoffer, is a result of a three-day global summit entitled “From Climate Change to Climate Resilience.”
