About Us

In January 2021, Governor Charlie Baker signed An Act Ensuring Safe Patient Access to Emergency Care ("Laura's Law") into law, requiring the Department of Public Health to convene a work group to advise on minimum criteria and standards that ensure safe, timely, and accessible patient access to the entrances of Massachusetts hospital emergency departments.

The working group will advise the Department on regulations to address indoor and outdoor signage, indoor and outdoor lighting, best-practice way-finding, security and monitoring of emergency department (ED) access points, and the needs of patients with disabilities.
