Unified Recovery and Monitoring Program

Bureau of Health Professions Licensure to establish a confidential, voluntary recovery and monitoring program for all 21 Boards and Professions in 2024.

Who we serve:

Chapter 177 of the Acts of 2022 requires the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (‘the Department’) to establish a voluntary program for monitoring the rehabilitation of licensed health care professionals who seek support for their mental health or substance use, or who are referred to the program by a licensing board.

The licensing boards in question and the proposed rehabilitation program fall under the stewardship of the Bureau of Health Professions Licensure (‘BHPL’) at the Department.  BHPL oversees and supports the Massachusetts Drug Control Program and 21 boards of registration and certification in health professions. It assesses the qualifications of applicants for health care professional licensure, registration, and certification.

BHPL already has two rehabilitation programs of a similar nature for the Board of Registration in Nursing (SARP) and the Board of Registration in Pharmacy (PSUD).  Both services will transition to the unified rehabilitation program when it is launched in 2024, and participants within these programs will not be impacted.

The new service will be called the Unified Recovery and Monitoring Program (URAMP).
