Plan of Safe Care

Massachusetts Department of Public Health Plan of Safe Care (POSC)

As defined by the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA), Plans of Safe Care (POSC) are intended to help ensure the safety and well-being of infants impacted by substance use and their families. Substance use treatment providers, medical providers, and family service providers should be prepared to offer POSC to all patients, residents or clients experiencing substance exposed pregnancies or births. While POSC are owned by the patient, resident or client, and should be individualized, the guidance and templates on this page can assist providers in offering comprehensive and effective POSC.
