Rare Reptile and Amphibian Conservation

The NHESP protects reptiles and amphibians listed as Endangered, Threatened, or of Special Concern in Massachusetts.

About 20 species of reptiles and amphibians are protected under MESA. This includes various turtle, snake, and salamander species, among others. Since these species typically require a variety of habitat types, populations are impacted by several different factors. Conservation programs, protection of habitats, and education are critical to their long-term survival.
