Rare Reptile and Amphibian Conservation

MassWildlife's Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program protects reptiles and amphibians listed as Endangered, Threatened, or of Special Concern in Massachusetts.

About 20 species of reptiles and amphibians are protected under MESA. This includes species of turtles, snakes, salamanders, and more. Because these species typically require a variety of habitat types, their populations are impacted by a variety of factors. Conservation programs, habitat protection, and education are critical to their long-term survival.
