Continuing Education Information for Producers, Public Insurance Adjusters & Providers

Producers

Producers:

Continuing Education requirements for Resident Insurance Producers, licensed after April 4, 1983; under Massachusetts law, M.G.Lc. 175 § 177E, requires all resident insurance producers to fulfill continuing education requirements to maintain their licenses. The requirements are as follows:

  • Any person holding a resident producer license shall prior to the initial renewal date of producer license satisfactorily complete approved CE courses or programs of instruction or attend seminars equivalent to a minimum of sixty hours (60) of instruction.  You are required to take three (3) CE hours in MA approved Ethics (coded as MAE on our vendor’s website) for each CE triennium. The first renewal date will be less than three (3) years following the date of original issuance of a license, as a license renews on your birth date on a triennial basis.
  • Subsequent thirty-six (36) month periods require forty-five (45) hours of instruction, including the three (3) CE hours of MA approved Ethics requirement.  Please complete your CE hours prior to your license renewal date, so that the hours are displaying on your transcript.
  • Excess classroom hours accumulated during any one thirty-six month period may be carried forward to the next thirty-six month period only.

The courses, programs of instruction and seminars that qualify one to meet continuing education requirements include such national programs as CPCU, CLU, CIC and AAI.

Public Insurance Adjusters:

Continuing Education requirements for Public Insurance Adjusters, under Massachusetts law, M.G.L.c.175 § 172, requires all Public Insurance Adjusters to fulfill fifteen hours of continuing education to maintain their licenses .

A person renewing a public insurance adjuster's license shall be certified by the Division of Insurance and its vendor as having completed before the renewal of said license a total of fifteen (15 hours) of approved continuing education;  public insurance adjuster courses only. A public insurance adjuster will not receive CE credit for taking a producer licensee CE course, nor will a producer receive CE credit for taking a public insurance adjuster CE course.

Public Insurance Adjuster licenses renew on a triennial basis from original date of licensure. One must be CE compliant prior to renewal of license; there is not reinstatement period allowed for public insurance adjusters. Public Insurance Adjusters are not required to take an MA approved Ethics course.
