Learn the history of the Department of Public Utilities (DPU)

The DPU is the direct successor of the Board of Gas Commissioners, which was established in 1885 as the first gas regulatory commission of its kind in the United States.  Starting in 1907, other states began following suit by creating their own state utility regulatory commissions.
