Find emergency shelter

Agencies and nonprofits in Massachusetts can help you find emergency shelter.

If you are in need of emergency shelter, the Department of Housing and Community Development has homeless coordinators who may be able to help you and your family. You can apply for emergency assistance over the phone or in person.

If you need emergency shelter in the Greater Boston Area, contact the Boston Public Health Commission. The Commission provides a range of services including career counseling, job training, and substance use prevention.

If you are in the Worcester area, the City of Worcester's Office of Homeless Assistance can provide referrals to shelters or other housing services.

The City of New Bedford coordinates a comprehensive response to homelessness through the New Bedford Service Providers Network.

The Consumer Education Center also has information on homeless services across Massachusetts and you can locate a homeless shelter in your area by visiting the Homeless Shelter Directory
