Licensing Requirements: Adviser - Individual
The requirements for advisers are governed by M.G.L. c. 175 §177A and §177B. To become an insurance adviser in the Commonwealth, applicants must meet the following requirements:
  1. The applicant must pass the adviser licensing examination administered by Prometric. Contact Prometric at http://www.prometric.com
  2. or call 800-741-9380 to schedule your written examination.
  3. The applicant must be least eighteen (18) years of age.
  4. No insurance license issued to the applicant has ever been revoked or suspended.
  5. The applicant is trustworthy and competent.

The general subjects covered by the exam may be found at http://www.prometric.com:
 
Please submit the following:
  1. A complete and accurate license application.
  2. An original passing score report provided by the testing vendor.
  3. A written contract describing advising services.
    Written contract must be in the licensee's name printed on licensee's adviser's license.  An individual adviser may not use his/her employer's adviser's contract name.
  4. A check for $200 made payable to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
    Please note the fee is non-refundable.
