In December 2022, the Fund reached $2,500,000 spent helping over 18,000 local animals through the Spay/Neuter Voucher Program and Emergency Fund. On average the Fund receives over 500 requests for help monthly. To continue this program and to keep up with growing number of requests for help, we rely greatly on the generosity of Massachusetts residents.

On Your Massachusetts Income Tax Return
Every year you will have the opportunity to donate on your state income taxes. Below are some instructions for some of the most common tax preparation methods.
Preparation by Yourself or a Tax Professional Using Paper Forms
The Homeless Animal Prevention and Care Form is line 33f on your Massachusetts Resident Income Tax Return Form 1. Line 33 appears at the top of page 3 of this form and is labeled “Voluntary fund contributions”. 33f is the line for the Massachusetts Homeless Animal Prevention and Care Fund. On this line you can enter the dollar amount that you would like to contribute to the Fund. The amount you fill in on line 33f will either be deducted from your refund or added to the amount you owe.
Remember to discuss your donation with your tax professional as they collect your information and prepare your forms. You will not have the option to add this donation after you sign your prepared tax forms.
Preparation Using TurboTax (Software or Online)
When you have completed your federal return using TurboTax, you will be directed to complete your state return.
Complete your state return and then click "Continue" until you reach Massachusetts Taxes and Credits Summary. Click Continue; the next page will be titled “Voluntary Fund Contributions.” The Massachusetts Homeless Animal Prevention and Care Fund is the final item to appear on this page.
In the box next to the Fund name you can enter the dollar amount that you would like to contribute to the Fund. The amount you fill in will either be deducted from your refund or added to the amount you owe.
Please note, If you completed your return but did not yet submit it, you can still make a donation. On the You’ve Finished your Massachusetts Return page, click the “Your Bottom Line” link, which will bring you back to the Massachusetts Taxes and Credits.

Preparation Using H&R Block (Software or Online)
When you have completed your federal return using H&R Block, you will be directed to complete your state return.
Complete your state return and click Next until you reach the Massachusetts Payments page.
Review your information and click Next. On the Massachusetts Wrap-Up page, check the box next to “Make Massachusetts donations or contribute to Massachusetts clean elections fund” and click Next. Click Next on the Massachusetts Clean Election Fund page to bring you to the Massachusetts Donations page. The Massachusetts Homeless Animal Prevention and Care Fund is the third item listed on this page. In the box next to the Fund name you can enter the dollar amount that you would like to contribute to the Fund. The amount you fill in will either be deducted from your refund or added to the amount you owe. If you completed your return but did not yet submit it, you are still able to make a voluntary contribution. On the Massachusetts Summary page, click the “Go there” link next to “Massachusetts Voluntary Donations.” By clicking Next, you can follow the steps above to make a donation.
