The Board of Registration of Genetic Counselors oversees the practice and licensure of genetic counselors in Massachusetts. These individuals are health professionals with specialized graduate degrees and experience in medical genetics and counseling. As part of a healthcare team, genetic counselors provide information and support to families who have members with birth defects or genetic disorders as well as families who may be at risk for these heritable conditions. The board establishes rules and regulations to ensure a high standard of practice that includes both integrity and competence in their licensees.
