Notice Inviting Comments on Proposed Amendments to Supreme Judicial Court Rule 4:02, Periodic Registration of Attorneys

Comments may be submitted on or before October 21, 2020.

The Supreme Judicial Rules Committee seeks comments on proposed amendments to SJC Rule 4:02, Periodic Registration of Attorneys. The proposed amendments would implement the recommendation of the Court’s Standing Committee on Lawyer Well-Being that a demographic survey of the Massachusetts bar be conducted annually in order to gain a greater understanding of the members of the Massachusetts bar for the purpose of offering services and programs to aid lawyers. The annual survey would be part of the Board of Bar Overseers' annual registration process that each Massachusetts lawyer is required to complete under SJC Rule 4:02. The demographic information in the survey would be confidential. If the amendment is adopted by the Supreme Judicial Court, the Board of Bar Overseers will take the necessary steps to include completing the survey as part of its registration process.

The proposed amendments appear in the redlined document at the link below. Comments should be directed to Christine P. Burak, Supreme Judicial Court, John Adams Courthouse, One Pemberton Square, Boston, MA 02108 on or before October 21, 2020. Comments may also be emailed to christine.burak@sjc.state.ma.us. Comments received will be made available to the public.
