Off-Highway Vehicles Riding Area Grant Program

The Off-Highway Vehicle Riding Area Grant, provides funding to assist municipalities in planning and developing areas for OHV riding and public outdoor recreational use.

Program Description

The Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) protects, conserves, and restores the natural resources of the Commonwealth, and provides public recreational opportunities.  Chapter 202 of the Acts of 2010 established an Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Program Fund.  The Secretary of EEA, as trustee, administers the fund, at least 25% of which must be used for the acquisition of land for use as Commonwealth-approved trails and facilities for off-highway vehicles.  In this capacity, EEA is making available funding for an Off-Highway Vehicle Riding Area Grant, to assist municipalities in planning and developing areas for OHV riding and public outdoor recreational use.  Cooperation with non-profit and user groups are welcome and encouraged.

The goal of the OHV Riding Area Grant program is to encourage the development of new, municipally-owned outdoor recreation areas in which the public can safely and legally operate OHVs, and which are managed properly for protection of natural resources.  Information and application materials are available at www.commbuys.com. Eligible applicants:  Massachusetts municipalities

Eligible applications and maximum award amounts

1. Conducting a process of public outreach and input on developing local OHV riding opportunities (up to $15,000)
2. Design and construction of facilities for public outdoor OHV riding on municipally-owned land (up to $500,000)
