Radon in Schools

In 1990, the U.S.Environmental Protection Agency conducted a National Schools Radon Survey. This study found that about 1 in 5 schools have at least one room with radon levels above the EPA Action Guideline of 4 pCi/L.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health recommends that all schools and childcare facilities be tested for radon. There are national standards for the measurement and mitigation of radon in schools as well as for radon-resistant construction of schools and large buildings.
