Designation of Higher and Lower Hazard Chemicals

New Higher Hazard Substances for 2017: Toluene Diisocyanates

As of January 1, 2017, 2,4-TDI (CAS 584-84-9); 2,6-TDI (CAS 91-08-7); and TDI Mixed Isomers (CAS 26471-62-5) are designated as Higher Hazard Substances (HHS), with a reporting threshold of 1,000 lbs. The designation follows a public hearing and formal 21-day public comment period as well as an additional 60-day public comment period. EEA's Office of Technical Assistance and Technology (OTA) is available on a free and confidential basis to help companies affected by the lower reporting threshold to comply with the new requirements. Call (617) 626-1060 with reporting questions.

As of January 1, 2016, 1-Bromopropane (n-Propyl Bromide (CAS 106-94-5)), Hydrogen Fluoride (CAS 7664-39-3), Cyanide Compounds (TURA #1016), and Dimethylformamide (CAS 68-12-2) are designated as Higher Hazard Substances (HHS), with a reporting threshold of 1,000 lbs. The designation follows a public hearing and formal 21-day public comment period. See the Response to Comments below.
