Refrigeration Apprentice

This license allows the holder to perform refrigeration work subject to inspection under any law, ordinance, by-law, rule or regulation under the direct supervision of a Refrigeration Technician or Refrigeration Contractor.

A Refrigeration Apprentice must be licensed with the OPSI, must hold a valid registration with the Division of Apprenticeship Standards, and must be employed by a Massachusetts Refrigeration Contractor for the duration of their apprenticeship. A Refrigeration Technician can supervise the work of the Refrigeration Apprentice, but the work hours will only be accepted while under the employment of the Refrigeration Contractor.

What are the prerequisites

A person seeking an Apprentice Refrigeration Technician License must:

  1. Complete an application with proper mailing AND home address, social security number.
  2. Attach a copy of your high school diploma or equivalent certification.
  3. Attach a 1" x 1.25" photo (Unless Authorization for Release of RMV Photo Information Signed-Off)
  4. Attach a copy of your Division of Apprentice Standards ID Card.
  5. Provide proof that you are at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  6. Pay a non-refundable application processing fee of $40.

How is this license obtained?

You must provide OPSI with the information listed above. You are not required to pass an exam for the apprentice license.
