The Massachusetts Drought Dashboard displays the latest precipitation data plus other hydrological data used for drought monitoring.

Precipitation Observation Stations

DCR Office of Water Resources operates a network of 43 precipitation observation stations run by volunteers throughout Massachusetts. These stations help DCR track monthly precipitation around the state. You can use the map below to view where these stations are located. The Massachusetts Drought Dashboard’s Precipitation page shows the latest data available for each station plus additional data from federal sources.

Precipitation Database

DCR's Office of Water Resources maintains a precipitation database that tracks data from the volunteer observers. Precipitation values in the database are monthly totals for each station reported as inches of water. In the case of snow and ice, observers melt the precipitation to determine the equivalent inches of water.

Data from the precipitation database are available to the public in Microsoft Excel format upon request. Please specify the station(s) and time period of data being requested by emailing: climate.data@mass.gov.
