Non-Discrimination Notice

The Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services (DDS) complies with all applicable state and federal civil rights laws in the eligibility for and delivery of its services.  DDS does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, ancestry, age, disability, religious creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, genetic information, and/or veteran status.  DDS does not exclude people or treat them differently on the basis of any and/or all of these protected categories.

State Law Nondiscrimination Protections

DDS complies with the Governor’s Executive Order 592, Section 4 requiring all programs, activities, and services provided, performed, licensed, chartered, funded, regulated, or contracted for and by the state to be conducted without unlawful discrimination based on race, color, age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, religion, creed, ancestry, national origin, disability, veteran’s status (including Vietnam-era veterans), or background.

DDS also complies with the state’s Public Accommodation Law, G.L. c. 272 §§ 92A, 98, 98A, which prohibits making any distinction, discrimination, or restriction in admission to, or treatment in a place of public accommodation based on race, color, religious creed, national origin, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, deafness, blindness, or any physical or mental disability, or ancestry.

Federal Nondiscrimination Protections

DDS complies with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and other applicable federal statutes and regulations in the implementation of its programs. Title VI prohibits discrimination in federally assisted programs and requires that no person in the United States of America shall, on the grounds of race, color or national origin (including limited English proficiency, and actual or perceived shared ancestry or ethnic characteristics), be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be otherwise subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.
