DCR Watershed Land Protection

Find out how DCR's Division of Water Supply Protection acquires land surrounding the Quabbin Reservoir, Ware River, Wachusett Reservoir, and Sudbury Reservoir.

DCR’s Division of Water Supply Protection’s Land Protection activities focus on acquiring sensitive watershed lands in order to maintain, or restore, a stable forest cover on these lands. Goals for this program include: acquiring priority properties in the active water supply watersheds with cooperative landowners in either fee or as a Watershed Preservation Restriction; maintaining oversight of existing properties with Watershed Preservation Restrictions; and administering the Payments in Lieu of Taxes Program.
