Overview of Bird Pond Dam (Walpole, MA) Public Meeting 9/17/2024
The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (MassDCR) Office of Dam Safety (ODS) has determined that Bird Pond Dam (MA00804) in the Town of Walpole has no identifiable owner and is in need of repairs in order to comply with the Massachusetts Dam Safety regulations (302 CMR 10.00). The dam impounds Bird Pond along the Neponset River and is located west of Washington Street and south of Mansion Drive (formerly Bird Drive). The dam is classified as a HIGH (Class I) Hazard Potential dam in accordance with 302 CMR 10 - Massachusetts Dam Safety Regulations (Dam Safety Regulations). MassDCR ODS has conducted hydrologic and hydraulic modeling to evaluate dam repair and removal alternatives, which will be presented at this public meeting.
After the meeting, the presentation will be available for viewing on DCR’s Past events for DCR Public Meetings Information web page. DCR encourages the public to share additional feedback, with a deadline for receipt of comments by DCR of October 1st, 2024. Comments may be submitted via the DCR public comment portal.
