Cadet Program

Overview

The Massachusetts State Police will host a Cadet Program information session on August 17, 2026, at 1 p.m. at the Worcester Boys & Girls Club. At this session, you can meet current cadets and learn about the program, the application process, and how to prepare for the Cadet Exam.

To attend, register for the information session.

About the program

The Massachusetts State Police Cadet Program is a full-time, paid civilian role with benefits for Massachusetts residents ages 19 to 25 who are interested in a career in law enforcement. Cadets receive hands-on training that helps them build the skills and experience needed for that career. Successful completion of the program, along with passing the Civil Service State Trooper Exam, may lead to direct appointment into a Recruit Training Troop at the State Police Academy.

Application process

The process begins by applying for the State Police Cadet position on MassCareers to register for the Cadet Exam. After eligibility and exam results are confirmed, qualified candidates receive instructions for completing the full application. The Application Review Committee then decides who will move forward to a background check, physical fitness assessment, medical exam, and psychological exam. Candidates who complete all requirements receive an official employment offer and then complete a four-week training program at the State Police Academy.
