6-13-24 Agenda

  1. Introductions and announcements (as needed)
    • Agenda time of 2 hr is a max time.  For the June meeting we have 60 minutes slated
  2. State Plan Recommendations Discussions:

Recommendation FY24-5:

Recommendation FY24-4: MRC will work with the SRC to develop practical strategies for sharing work incentives information with the business community/employers.

As of April there had been a total of 34 applications for the DETC. MRC is waiting until finalization of it’s name change in order to formally market the opportunity, but it is available now for employers (and thus people with disabilities working for these employers) now. Update (Joe Realle, MRC):

Recommendation FY24-6: The SRC will work with the MRC to assess and potentially enhance current strategies and mechanisms to support Job Seekers in pursuing self-employment vocational goals.

Updates and planning for 2025 recommendations in the area of Self-employment

New Recommendation: SRC will collaborate with MRC to identify and report national best practices in serving MRC consumers with Mental Health Disabilities, including differences in employment rates.

  1. What problem is this trying to solve or what issue is this trying to address?

48% of MRC Consumers identify Mental Health as their primary disability type. It’s the largest single disabling influence of people served, yet this group is often cited in the literature as having one of the lowest employment rates of employment.

  1. The intended value and purpose as it relates to vocational rehabilitation. In other words, how will this help achieve “competitive and sustainable employment for all people with disabilities”? (The quote is from the SRC mission.)

This initiative compares MRC Data on successful closures of people with MH Conditions with data from other states’ VR Agencies and identifies best practices in states with higher rates of employment for this population.

  1. What is the expected outcome or deliverable for this recommendation? What impact is it expected to have?

MRC will have enhanced knowledge of national best practices in employment for it’s largest disability type.

Next BEO meeting August 8, 2024 @ 1:00 PM
