Theory of Change: How and why do we expect our work to contribute to outcomes?

Thursday, December 10, 2026, from 1-2 pm. Note: To register you will need a free, basic Zoom account. Link follows in the description.

Overview

When we introduce a service, program, project, process, or product, we often have an idea about what will work, for whom, and why. That’s the change we expect to see. When we map our work to that change, important relationships and assumptions become clear.

This session introduces a practical Theory of Change approach. We'll explore how to:

  • Make the connections between activities, outputs, and outcomes visible
  • Identify assumptions and external factors
  • Consider where the logic is strong or where more evidence may be needed

The Experience Research (XR) Community of Practice brings together experience researchers and anyone who conducts or supports research to learn, share, and connect. It focuses on constituent-centered research and is open to employees of state organizations.
