An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is also known as a Federal Tax Identification Number, and is used to identify a business entity. The only kind of business that does not require getting an EIN is a sole proprietorship with no employees.

You can only receive your EIN through the IRS. If you have questions about getting an EIN, contact the IRS.
