Change information on your vehicle title

Title Amendment

To change information on your vehicle title, you need:

• Certificate of Title 
  • If your current title is a paper title, the Certificate of Title must be original, no copies will be accepted
  • If your current title is an Electronic Vehicle Certificate of Title (E-Title), you do not need to submit a paper title
• A completed Amend Title/Lienholder Maintenance Application Form. Please check the appropriate boxes and fill in all the required information. All owner(s) must sign the application.
• Any other documentation relevant to the correction
• Title Amendment Fee

To correct the odometer reading listed on your certificate of title, you need the above, as well as:

• Notarized Affidavit for Correction

To add or change lienholder information the following is needed:

• The original certificate of title with any previous lien released (stamped and signed by previous lienholder) or a lienholder release letter (must be on lienholder’s letterhead - no copies).
• Amend Title/Lienholder Maintenance Application Form with the Add a Lienholder option checked
• Title Add Lien fee

IMPORTANT: Adding a lien may change your title format. When a lien is added, the new title will be issued as a paper title or as an ELT, depending on the lienholder participation in the ELT program. 

If the vehicle has an active registration, the registration may also need to be corrected. You should contact your insurance company and have an insurance agent complete and stamp a Registration and Title Application (RTA Form).

NOTE: If ownership is changing or if an owner is added or deleted from a title, this is not considered a correction. It is a transfer of ownership and a new original title must be applied for.
