Some state services may require you to verify your identity. Learn how to complete the identity verification process.

What you need
To verify your identity in MyMassGov, you'll be asked to submit the following information:
- Full legal name
- Social Security number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification number (ITIN)
- Phone number
- Birthdate
- Email address
- Residential address
How to complete
Steps for completing identity verification
- Go to Identity Verification.
- Select "Begin identity verification."
- Review your account information and make changes if necessary.
- Select "Save and next."
- Provide your information:
- Enter your Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification number
- Select "Save and next"
- Verify your phone number by entering it and choosing to either receive a text or automated phone call
- Select "Send code"
- Enter the verification code you received by text or phone call
- Select "Verify"
- Select "Save and next"
- Enter your date of birth
- Enter your residential street address
- Select "Save and next"

Get your identity verification status
After you submit your information, the next screen will have your identity verification status:
- Identity verified means:
- You have completed the identity verification process and proven that you are who you claim to be
- You have completed the identity verification process and proven that you are who you claim to be
- We are unable to verify your identity means:
- Your identity is not verified
- You can retry by selecting "Return to identity verification"
- If MyMassGov can’t verify you, that will not stop you from using state services or benefits programs. You can reach out to the agency responsible for the service directly.
- We need more information means:
- Your identity isn't verified yet
- You can try to finish verifying by selecting "Finish verifying your identity"
