File a charter school board member financial statement with the State Ethics Commission
The Details
Before You Begin
Members of the boards of trustees of Massachusetts charter schools are required by law to file an annual financial disclosure with the State Ethics Commission, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and the city or town clerk in the municipality where the charter school is located.
The disclosure form requires board members to disclose any financial interest that they, or members of their immediate family, have in any charter school located in Massachusetts or another state, or with any person or entity doing business with any charter school.
Board members must file a disclosure:
- Within 30 days of becoming a member of a charter school board of trustees;
- On or before September 1 of each year while serving on the board; and
- On or before September 1 of the year following the year in which they cease serving on the board.
A former board member is not required to file a disclosure for the year in which they leave the board if they served for fewer than 30 days during that year.
All disclosures must be signed under the penalties of perjury.
Please note: Filing a financial statement with the State Ethics Commission does not satisfy the separate requirement to file the same disclosure with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the city or town clerk where the charter school is located.
