Renew an Apprentice ID card

Registered Apprenticeship sponsors are required to renew their apprentices’ ID cards each year with the Division of Apprentice Standards (DAS). Apprentices must carry their ID card at all times while working during their apprenticeship.

About ID cards

Each apprentice ID card includes:

  • Photo of the apprentice
  • Registration number
  • Expiration date
  • Name of apprenticeship employer or sponsor
  • Name of program (trade/occupation)
  • Steps of progression and related dates for the apprenticeship
  • Start date and projected completion date

Reminder: Apprentices must have their ID card with them during all hours of employment.

Fees

Sponsors must renew the card annually and pay a $35 fee. The card expires annually based on the start date of the apprenticeship.

How to renew

All Registered Apprenticeship sponsors must use the Massachusetts Registered Apprenticeship Sponsor Portal to request or renew apprentice ID. 

Next steps

Receving the Apprentice ID card

Your apprentice ID card will be emailed to you once you are fully registered with your employer.

Lost or replacement cards

If an apprentice loses their ID card, they should notify their sponsor or employer right away to request a replacement.
